It seems, he designs a new way and prepares a new idea about religious dimension of art, which he has called ‘theology of art’. In constituting this new idea, Pattison refers to Zen Buddhism, with some contents of Existentialism, and distances himself from Romanticism and Postmodernism. According to him, art can provide an aesthetic view, can cultivate its receptors, and finally can lead human kind to the spiritual journey. But if we consider his approach, it is obvious that he couldn’t succeed to reach an authentic and reliable viewpoint. It seems we can call his theory an artistic theology, in contrast to theology of art. در این مقاله با روش تحلیلی - انتقادی به بررسی دیدگاه جورج پاتیسون در باب رابطۀ دین و هنر می‌پردازیم. پاتیسون تأملات خود را در مسیر آنچه مندرج می‌کند که خود الهیات هنر نامیده است. او به این نتیجه رسیده که هنر نه ابراز زیردست الهیات، بلکه نوعی نگرش زیبایی‌شناختی به جهان هستی است، نگرشی که ضمن پاسداشت گوهر زندگی، به رهاوردی معنوی منتهی خواهد شد. او نگاه مطلوب خود را بیش از کلیسا و الهیات رسمی مسیحی، در طریقت بودایی ذن جست‌وجو می‌کند و البته همزمان از رمانتیسم و اندیشۀ پست‌مدرن فاصله می‌گیرد. اما به‌نظر می‌رسد حاصل نظریات او نه الهیات هنر، بلکه رویکردی هنری به دین و تفسیری زیبایی‌شناختی از زندگی است که می‌توان آن‌ را با تعبیر الهیات هنری متمایز کرد و اشکال‌های وارد بر آن ‌را برشمرد. https://jpht.ut.ac.ir/article_64487_abde962c399aca75fc298f008d3bfba2.pdf
